A painful and moving performance by Hoffman. It is particularly sad to correlate this story with the suicide of Hoffman -- what is the point of working seriously, feeling strongly, and living a meaningful life? For a spy-master or for an actor, the answer hangs on the balance of a universe giving a moral damn.
