Review of A Most Violent Year (2014) by Robert K — 10 May 2015
A film of dark but not malevolent tones and almost constant tension. It examines the type of business circumstances that turn good men bad. Or at least reach out for help from bad men. It's remarkable in that it never sells itself short with an easy out.
This is a well told story about how hard it is to be good. But it's not heroic in the sense that we've come to know heroic tales. It never delves into melodrama or action answers. And that makes it fairly unique and fascinating.
