Review of A Most Violent Year (2014) by Peter F — 09 Jan 2015
J.C. Chandor's third film is a mix between crime fiction and Sirk-esque melodrama that comes together as a rather compelling whole. Astonishing in it's period details. Chandor really does seem to have captured a by-gone era of New York City, and frames some really kick-ass action scenes in his Concrete Jungle.
Well acted and solidly written too, even if there is an air of predictability to it. Not quite one of 2014's best, but certainly one of the most unique mainstream American films of the year.
