Review of A Most Violent Year (2014) by Brendan S — 07 Feb 2015
Imagine if Sydney Lumet was still directing today. Now imagine he needed to cast his new Andy Garcia and shot his films with the aid of a cinematographer accustomed to working on sleek, high-dollar car ads or GQ photo shoots.
The end result would look a lot like A Most Violent Year - not a gangster movie per se, but an a very solid film about a principled man struggling to expand his business in a corrupt industry. After Margin Call, then All is Lost and now, this, he's built up enough good will with me that I'll be pretty psyched about his upcoming work.
