A Most Violent Year is set in 1981 NYC, statistically one of the most crime-ridden years in the cities history. Oscar Issac is incredible as the intimidating, in over his head, egotistical Abel, who is trying to legitimately grow his business while the cops look into him and his employees are under attack.

Equally as captavating is Jessica Chastain as his wife Anna who's mob ties, and inflated ego may do more to harm her family then help. This movie was a great watch but keeping it from being an all time classic was the feeling that the story sat just on the outside of a bigger more interesting story that we never get to see.
