I think the mistake I possibly made was going into this thinking it would be a modern day Goodfellas/Bronx Tale. Although it does tell the story of an ex mafia guy trying to go straight, it's more a character study than and sprawling, visceral thrill ride.
This disappointed me on initial viewing, the slow pace didn't help either.
