Review of A Most Violent Year (2014) by Ron W — 14 Sep 2015
This movie is boring and wastes the talents of some very fine actors. Oscar Issac stars as an owner of an up an coming heating oil business in New York what appears to be around the 1970's. His trucks are being hijacked, the DA is investigating the industry for corruption and tax evasion and appears to be targeting his company exclusively.
His real reason for targeting Isaac's company becomes apparent late in the film. Issac, starring as Abel Morales wants to do every thing according to the book. He's married to Anna, (Jessica Chastain)who we discover is the daughter of a gangster who they bought the company from years before.
While Abel claims to be a straight arrow, we discover he's been fudging the numbers but all in all he's "sorta honest". He puts his life savings as a deposit on a large piece of property complete with huge oil tanks and has 30 days to come up with $1.
5 million or he loses his deposit. OK, that's the plot. I hate Abel. He is as his wife referred to him, "a pussy" . The movie is boring, Abel is boring and a pussy. All he does the entire movie is "blah, blah, blah" about hard work, and all kinds of boring platitudes.
I kept waiting for something to happen and all I got was Abel, "Blah, blah, blah" This is a terrible movie. I was so disappointed. It is a total waste of time. Did I tell you, I hate Abel?
