The sentiments and ideas portrayed by young Con are pretty universal. All too common is the fact that Conor feels what he feels and the resulting emotional conflict resonates personally. Don't go in with expectations you'll try to fight, you'll miss some very fantastic acting and incredibly wonderful visuals.
