Review of A Monster Calls (2016) by Scott H — 10 Jan 2017
Incredible performances are wasted as it doesn't give the viewer any reason other than the obvious and melodramatic to feel for its characters. The protagonist is difficult to sympathize with given his immaturity and the middle act is so longwinded that when it reaches its predictable conclusion it misses its emotional mark.
Neeson gives a great voice performance and it features one of the year's best scenes, but overall a missed opportunity.
