Review of A Monster Calls (2016) by Noel F — 07 Nov 2016
It was early 2002 that I just finished watching a film that was set in Middle Earth and remember being pissed because of the cliffhanger ending and after knowing that it was based on a series of books from JRR Tolkien, I just have to read the book because the movie was so good, it took me awhile to read and finished the entire thing but it was worth it and now the Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of my favorite trilogies of all time.
That was the time that I can remember on wanting to read the book that a movie was based on until now, I love this movie, really really love it. Maybe because I can relate to the subject matter or maybe the movie is portraying cancer as it is and not over dramatized it.
I have watched the movie twice, read the book in under 3 hours and is still thinking about the quotes that could really be cheesy without its context but it works for the film. The lead kid actor Lewis MacDougall should be nominated for best actor if the world is fair, JA Bayona should be a locked for best director nomination and the writing should also be credited.
It works and it hurts, a lot! Enthusiastically recommended and bring tissues inside the theater.
