Review of A Monster Calls (2016) by Collin P — 11 Jan 2017
At first glance 'A Monster Calls' looks like your run of the mill BFG clone with a fable of a boy who goes on a weird wacky adventure.
Whilst Bayona's tale allows this to happen this isn't what the film is and it might well hit you for six. It's dark, sad and beautifully moving. It's safe to say this isn't aimed at 12 year olds (The boy's age).
A story of loss and how we deal with it, It's sure to leave 99% of people reaching for the tissues.
Stunning to look at, well paced and great performances across the board (Particularly from young Lewis Mcdougall as Connor) it really does deserve more attention in this massively packed award season. Oh and Sigourney Weaver attempting a British accent is worth the admission fee alone.
Go watch.
