Review of A Monster Calls (2016) by Myke E — 06 Nov 2016
ANOTHER GREAT ADAPTATION.
A MONSTER CALLS have no target audiences, since it presents the dark themes in a lighter tone - which could be lighter for the adults, and darker for the young ones. But for me it is perfectly flawed story. The story is not that flowing smoothly, with the characters blurting out heartbreaking quotes, or the monster telling the tales. It seems a little bit rushed. What I liked about the book is that there is a question: "Does the Monster really exists?" but in the movie it is showed explicitly. Another flaw of the movie, is the "added scene" (not in the book) not that I'm complaining but it seems out of place. It should have ended on the scene before that, where it is implicitly showed (even before that) that his mother also met the monster. The scene it out of place, with just silence and the background music playing. But nonetheless it's a tearjerking movie, it's Bridge to Terabithia all over again.
