Review of A Monster Calls (2016) by Jason P — 06 Jan 2017
An excellent work on the themes of mother and child connection, psychology of dealing with the overwhelming pain of separation and encroaching threat of death. The intense connections between a son and his mother come out in their mutual use of art to express themselves and deal with struggles and his creation of an imaginary 'monster' to vent his feelings of powerlessness and anger.
A great cast lead by Lewis McDougall includes a strong turn by Sigourney Weaver and Liam Neeson as the voice of the monster.
