Review of A Monster Calls (2016) by Tom P — 12 Jan 2017
People have deemed it emotionally manipulative, but I would disagree. It's a powerful message about someone's world completely changing and effects it has on everyone evolved. The characters are well developed, the story line doesn't feel forced upon you, the acting is very top notch (except a few part from the child actor but I can forgive that), and message is great. From someone that's effected personally with the film, the film doesn't feel like it's there to tell you how to feel. It feels more along the lines of how this person is feeling and what he has to go through in his mind. There are fantastic original elements as well that round up the film perfectly. The ending has you in tears while give you a sense of overall emotional sanctification.
9.6/10.
