Review of A Monster Calls (2016) by Jaime L — 14 Jan 2017
The "monster" certainly looked good and being voiced by Liam Neeson was a perfect choice to voice him but I simply could not get behind the kid or his situation. Blatant attempt at tear jerking that for the most part did not work for me because I believe of the child character being so unlikable.
The film not being what I was expecting it to be didn't help either. Fortunately there was enough meat on the bone and enough in the performances in the adult actors to carry it so that it wasn't ever boring or too melodramatic.
