Review of A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014) by Chris J — 10 Nov 2014
It was OK. Perhaps tried too hard. It had all the elements of a fun comedy, including some cameos. Unfortunately, the cameos were probably funnier than everything else in the film. I'm no comedy expert, but it almost seems like being in character was kind of an afterthought - too much 4th wall demolition for my taste.
I think 17 year old me would have found this uproariously funny, but I guess I have an appetite for a different flavor of humor.
Side note: when did the #1 rule of comedy become "F-bombs = funny"? I'm not opposed to a well-placed F-bomb, but it loses the impact when overdone. At that point, "fiddlesticks" or "fooey" becomes funnier. Strange how that works.
