Review of A Million Ways to Die in the West (2014) by Will D — 12 Jan 2015
This film is destined to be one of those polarisers that critics hate, and which will suffer from negative reviews from the only people who bother to review a film: those who didn't like it.
I say it's an enjoyable affair, with the two leads' obvious 21st Century attitudes poking deserved fun at the horrors of really living in the oft-romanticised West. Typical MacFarlane humour will appeal to anyone who finds his other shtick funny (myself included) and the film is well cast considering the characters themselves are slightly one dimensional. But that's what MacFarlane often pokes fun at in his many works: stereotypes and cliches. With the added twist of every character appearing to be a sarcastic parody of their own selves, this film is a fun jab at the Western genre and the first world of the 21st Century as well. Ignore the reviews and give it a go.
