"hahahaha" "heehee" "oh thats funny". If you were eavesdropping outside my bedroom door while I was watching A Mighty Wind, thats what you would have heard. The melodic sound of my laughter.

A Mighty Wind is a funny film. After skewering metal music, amateur dramatics and dog shows, Christopher Guest and his rag-tag bunch of friends turn their attentions to folk music, with hilarious results.

The songs in this film are brilliant, silly and kind of preposterous, but also with a love of the musical genre they are lampooning. The performances are all excellent, the cast bouncing off each other with their largely improvised dialogue.

The show stealer though is Eugene Levy. If you've only seen him in crappy American Pie spin-offs, then I implore you to watch this film. Every scene he is in comedic gold. He had me guffawing with just an eyebrow raise and an off-center stare.

All in all, an excellent film. Great performances, hilarious dialogue, fantastic songs, and the man that is Eugene Levy. Not quite as good as Waiting for Guffman, but a step up from Best in Show.
