Review of A Mighty Wind (2003) by Georges G — 21 Dec 2008
I really wished I had seen it in 2003. It was a very funny and touching film with great performances all around, but particularly from Bob Balaban and Eugene Levy. Bob Balaban channeled a lighter but skittish Woody Allen like character, while Eugene Levy had a small emotional and meaningful impact. The camerawork also felt very old and amateurish, a true feeling of a documentary -- like an inexperienced crew was making the film. It also feels as if it was shot on 16mm and then blown up to 35mm for theatrical release.
The humor in Christopher Guest films are usually dry and quick and laugh-out-loud hilarious. I never thought I'd say "Laugh-Out-Loud" in a review. I always hated when critics say things like that. But it's very true. I still haven't seen "Best in Show", but I will very soon.
