There was abuse in my family, but it was mostly musical in nature.

Fictional folk music at it's very best. The stories, the characters, and the documentary style of Christopher Guest.

The Story: When the head of a folk music record label dies, his children put together a reunion show of his favorite bands. Each band carries with it a great story. Mitch and Mickey carried the image of a loving couple, all the while they made each other miserable. The Folksmen had a rocky start but eventually found success. The Main Street Singers...Well they aren't really in existence anymore, the band fell apart so now it's The 'New' Main Street Singers, and they play with a strange set of rules. All of the bands stand well on their own. This is sort of another case in which each story could carry a separate film of it's own.

The Cast: It's a big one so I'm just gonna list a few names...Eugene Levy, Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest...These actors really make you believe that what you're watching is real. Eugene Levy plays the passive aggressive Mitch of "Mitch and Mickey". He plays the part with an humorous sense of pain and sorrow. That's right humorous sorrow, and he plays it perfectly. Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest play two of the three Folksmen. They'll have you believing that they really are part of a folk music band.

A Little More: One of the greatest things about this movie is it's great music. If you're a fan of good music than you owe it to yourself to watch this. Even if you're not a fan of folk music you might actually find yourself enjoying the tunes in this film. There's numerous songs performed throughout the film, and most of them are great and worth hearing at least once. The music really makes the film.

One to Five Scale: 5.

There's not much to dislike about this film. A truly believable cast, a great soundtrack, and a great story that will leave you wanting more. Unless you absolutely despise folk music with every fiber of your being, you should really see this one. And even if you absolutely despise folk music with every fiber of your being you still might enjoy this movie.
