Review of A Map of the World (1999) by Christopher L — 27 Nov 2006
Starring: Sigourney Weaver, Julianne Moore, David Strathairn, and Chloe Sevigny.
Directed by Scott Elliott.
Written by Peter Hedges and Polly Platt.
Rated R (for some sexuality and language).
Running time approximately 2 hours 8 minutes.
Scott Elliott's A Map of the World is a wholly convincing drama about love, loss and redemption. I know that probably sounds completely lame and contrived, but the film proves such thoughts to be incorrectly applied. I really enjoyed this film. That's the wrong word. The film really affected me, and in all the right ways. It does run a bit too long, and there are some unnecessary elements, but all in all, this is a good one. Weaver and Moore are wonderful, as usual. ***1/2 (out of ****) B+.
