Review of A Man for All Seasons (1966) by Michael S — 03 Jan 2008
This was the film that beat Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf? to the best picture Oscar, which in retrospect really wasn't fair, because Mike Nichols film was much more inventive and fresh than this ever was and will be.
That said, it is still a masterpiece. A beautifully executed historical drama with strong performances all around incl. Paul Scofield, Wendy Hiller, Robert Shaw and Susannah York. Do watch out for a young Vanessa Redgrave in a bit part.
