Review of A Long Weekend in Pest and Buda (2003) by Tibor B — 06 Mar 2009
Karoly Makk reunites the well known Hungarian actors Torocsik and Darvas who acted together in his 60s film "Szerelem (Love)". Footage from this film is used as subtle flashbacks here, as Darvas plays an elderly gentleman called back to Hungary from a wealthy lifestyle and marriage to the hospital bed of his old lover.
While in Hungary he discovers he has a daughter, now a beautiful and intelligent young woman. It's a touching drama, with superb acting from everyone as there are some complex emotions arroused and like in "Szerelem (Love)" it is the subtlety and complexity of the relationships rather than the storyline as such which is most interesting.
