Review of A Little Chaos (2015) by Graham B — 26 Jun 2015
Andre de Notre has been given the huge task of designing and building the gardens for the new palace at Versailles by Louis XIV. Inspired by her eye for chaos, he selects talented designer Sabine de Barra to help build an outdoor ballroom. Sabine's naivety with court life brings a breath of fresh air into the stuffy atmosphere and the two slowly become romantically involved.
Alan Rickman directs and stars in this grand affair and it's not a bad job. The art direction is superb and very well shot. Sadly the excellent cast are weighed down by a rather drab script which never really gets going.
It's not a bad film by any means and certainly a worthy costume drama. It just needed a little more oomph.
