Review of A Liar's Autobiography: The Untrue Story of Monty Python's Graham Chapman (2012) by Martin C — 15 Feb 2013
Go into this thinking you are getting Monty Python and you'll be disappointed. View with an open mind, or some understanding of the complex character it's trying to depict and you should find it to be a rewarding experience.
Amusing at times, but never laugh out loud funny, it moves from surreal flights of fancy - Chapman's first gay experiences depicted via an impressive action sequence featuring Biggles - to more dark moments as he battles against his alcoholism.
Through a series of inter-connected animated featurettes we get glimpses of key moments of his life, often camouflaged by absurd flights of fancy but never the less revealing some fascinating aspects of his life story.
