Review of A Letter to Three Wives (1949) by Jens T — 29 Jan 2012
Joseph L. Mankiewicz' classic comedy A Letter to Three Wives is the story about three women who all on a field trip with the school children, their husbands is at work. But all the three wives have received one letter to all of them from Addie Ross, the rich snobbish outsider lady, who's informing them that she is moving away from the town, and that she have taken one of their husbands with her.
She doesn't say whom.In the 1940s is was pretty much the man in the house that is in charge, and that the woman shall put the man's wish before her own. That if she don't follow his lead, he's gonna divorce her.
This movie certainly wouldn't been made today because it would have been opposite. I love all the characters in this film, we get many exciting and different stories from each of them. So this is without a doubt a classic pearl.
Thumbs up.
