Review of A Late Quartet (2012) by Dc E — 22 Apr 2013
Beethoven's opus 131... difficult to play, deliberately so as the old German composer was musing on life and death (and deaf) when he wrote it. Walken excels, and as his introduction tells you - this must be played without pause to the end, instruments go out of tune, but the players have to keep it together to make it all work through to the end.
A roughly hewn metaphor for what the film shows us... a little melodrmatic and overly acted at times. But Walken is its heart. And therefore its forgivable. Adult, intelligent, maybe not as important as it thinks it is.
