Review of A Home at the End of the World (2004) by Wil D — 26 Dec 2004
This movie took forever to come out on DVD. I patiently awaited for this drama starring Colin Farrel, Robin Wright Penn and Sissy Spacek. Dallas Roberts does such a great job as Colin"s soul mate.
The screenplay is by Michael Cunningham (The Hours) who adapted his own novel. The film is about a three way of sorts but not in just a sexual manner. It explores alternative families or the thought of a 3 parent family.
Please don't let that turn you away (it sounds cliche or cheesy I know). It deals with such real characters and situations. The screenplay never becomes melodramatic which would have been an easy to do by another writer.
Cunningham's screenplay is so simple that you just know that some of these characters/ situations are based on real characters/situations. Highly recommended. This is a perfect example of why Farrel is a star.
Too bad it will not be remembered for Oscar.
