Review of A Hologram for the King (2016) by Shaun I — 23 Jan 2017
When I sit down to watch any feature starring Tom Hanks as the main character I get a warm assured feeling that tingles through my body. A knowing that if Tom has agreed to do this then I have agreed to give it my full undivided attention. I have no anxiety or worry that I'm going to lose the next couple of hours on pointless "guff".
A Hologram For A King is simply a mid-life crisis/ fish out of water mash that I think could only of been carried by an actor of Mr Hank's talent. The films stunning cultural image of Saudi Arabia is interesting and moreish with likeable characters.
The film is very charming and loveable to only the extent of the characters as the storyline feels like it's only giving you the basics and is screaming out for a deeper affair into the life of Mr Clay and the random doctor who will clearly just be a rebound as he will have to return to his lovely daughter that again didn't really make me understand the man that was being projected at me.
