Review of A History of Violence (2005) by Alan C — 26 Jun 2010
This is one of the more "Hollywood" style movies that David Cronenberg (Crash, Shivers, Eastern Promises, to name a few) has done, and a very good one. A History of Violence has some great action/violent scenes.
My biggest complaint, however, is that there wasn't enough background to Tom's (main character) 'past' life; I also felt one of the later characters was rushed into the scene. The thing is, if they added the extra details, this could have also made the movie a bit too obvious, so it's really a double-edged sword.
All-in-all, another great movie by Mr. Cronenberg.
One thing that I HIGHLY recommend before watching this movie is: Analyze it for what it presents to you, do not analyze it based on what you want/expect to see.
