A very unique film, in its own way.
A History Of Violence is a very refreshing film. David Cronenberg does a spectacular job directing this, and Viggo Mortensen does a terrific acting job.
A History Of Violence follows Tom Staal, an honest, hard working family man. He owns his own little coffee shop in a very small town. One day, 2 men come storming in. After implying that they were going to kill one of Tom's employees, Tom quickly reacts. 30 seconds later both men are dead, and Tom is standing with the gun in his hand. He is now the local hero. Unfortunately he has got the attention of 3 strange men, the group is led by a man called Carl Fogarty. They claim he is an ex mobster, and his true name is Joey. Tom claims to his family he has no clue what they are talking about, but it is obvious something isn't right...but the question still remains, is Tom Staal really who he says he is?
Viggo was the perfect person to play the lead role. Now I wasn't to keen on Maria Bello, at times I thought she came across cheesy, but hey...not a huge deal. Ed Harris was excellent in this, and his character really made you ask yourself questions.
The film started off a bit slow for my liking. Even after the robbery attempt it felt like it went back to being slow. Now it wasn't bad, it was great for character dialog, and got us to really know about Tom, and his past. But I would have liked there to be a bit more action. Although the action scene's that were in the film, were amazing, and very thrilling!
After countless people telling me to see this, I finally have. Now I still don't think it's as good as everyone says. Well at least as good as my friends say it is. But it is a very good film, with great acting, and a great direction.
