Review of A History of Violence (2005) by Steve R — 23 Oct 2011
David Cronenberg plays it straight for once with this story of a mild-mannered everyday man who becomes a local celebrity after killing two criminals who come into his shop threating violence. But his heroics come to the attention of the criminal underworld.
Those mobsters are convinced he was once involved with them many years ago and they want revenge. Is it a case of mistaken identity? An intelligent thriller with tolerable levels of violence. Nowhere near as horrific as the graphic novel it was based on.
Well recommeded for an adult audience (the film that is, not the book!).
