Review of A History of Violence (2005) by Ryan V — 11 Feb 2012
David Cronenberg's grisly drama follows a family man who has a grim and secret past that finally catches up to him. I personally found this film superior to the graphic novel that it's based on.
That's mostly because the wife is a cipher in the comic book while her screen translation reacts to her husband's reveal in a manner that struck me as being much more realistic. The dark amorality and tense conflict in this film makes many of its scenes difficult to forget even if they make one cringe in their seat.
