Review of A History of Violence (2005) by Jaime L — 17 Apr 2012
A History of Violence is well written, compelling, and very grisly, but not the horror type of grisly gore, but its gory though.
David Cronenberg really captures the nature of violence that occurs and how it easily can escalate and I just love it how Cronenberg put that nature throughout the film that creates this awareness of our society. Genius and smart.
Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello do a excellent job in their performance in this drama/violent cinema. I would say this is Maria Bello best performance that she offered, and I appreciated it.
Overall A History of Violence could have gone wrong in many ways, but David Cronenberg makes it solid; with a strong cast, well-written and direction, and gruesomely entertaining.
