Review of A History of Violence (2005) by Drew B — 22 Jan 2013
Interesting adaptation from the comic world. still not convinced that comics are a really good source of cinema. they turn out too stylized. comics are mediums that aren't well suited for motion, lets be honest. cartoons are different. anyway, thats neither here nor there...
History of Violence does an interesting thing to the audience by making you root for the law breaker without you realizing it. by the time the credits hit, you suddenly realize that everyone you liked in the film deserves to go to jail for a long long time. just as in Eastern Promises, the violence in this movie is extremely realistic and supremely brutal. the opening scene as the terrible murder of children. Freaking awesome for the story, but extremely damaging to the, uh, non-hardened of, err...movie watching-ness (?).
