Review of A History of Violence (2005) by Aaron E — 19 May 2012
Good concept overall. The violence was a cool edge to this movie - made it more interesting. I honestly cannot get my head past this rubbish script. Listen to the dialogue - its so typical, so cliche. The story also seems cliche initially (aka.
perfect family life and then everything gets destroyed). It's predictable. The directing was rubbish. The angles were akward and uncomfortable. Mortensen did well with what he had. If his lines weren't so trash he would've been able to do more with the role but unfortunately the rest of the cast (excluded Harris) are unable to escape the side-effects of such bad dialogue.
Oh and Howard Shore's score sounded exactly like his Lord of the Rings one.
