Review of A Haunted House (2013) by Mathias F — 14 Jun 2013
"A Haunted House" is a movie that clearly perceives itself as the smart and satirical brother to 'Scary Movie", but in reality it is just as dumb, corny and silly as the horror flicks it tries to lampoon, which is reflected in an endless sea of sex, farts and negro references.
The jokes are poorly written, the gags are tired and the level of originality is at the very bottom of the chart. Only very few moments are even remotely funny, and ironically those moments have absolutely nothing to do with the main parodies, which is not good considering that they are supposed to be the biggest selling points of the film.
The script is lazily written, resulting in a movie that lacks the passion and energy of the 'Scary Movie'-fanchise, which it clearly tries to emulate. The problem is that there is no iconic imagery in the film.
.. Nothing memorable.... Nothing hilarious. "A Hauntes house" is excruciatingly bad, and if you extract the VERY small portions of laughs and giggles from this meal, what you have left is a tasteless movie without anything relevant to say or comment on, and that is why it ultimately becomes a parody of itself rather than a clever spoof of horror films!
