Review of A Haunted House (2013) by Brianna R — 06 Jan 2014
Written by Marlon Wayans, A Haunted House tries too hard to be funny, there's an overload of silliness and nearly every single joke falls flat on it's face. Luckily, there are some decent qualities, most noticeably Michael Tiddes' direction of the found footage style camerawork, which surprisingly mixes in well with some of the rare jokes that do work.
Nick Swardson is funny as the lustful gay psychic, who quotes "I have powers, all over my body", that line and a few other quotes are good, he is the soul saviour for his part of the film. Cedric The Entertainer does a good job too, and The Devil Inside sequence is very good, taking the piss out of one of the worst reviewed movies ever in a goofy manner.
However, leads Marlon Wayans and Essence Atkins spend most of their time screaming, shouting and swearing and none of it is funny, Andrew Daly is even worse as a racist and mysogenistic neighbour, it's an unpleasant character and the amount of racist, sex and toilet jokes throughout this spoof overwhelms any type of credibility.
