Review of A Haunted House 2 (2014) by Jordon J — 13 Aug 2014
Because the first one was so good they had to make another! A Haunted House 2 is another horror/slasher film spoof written by Marlon Wayans and directed by Michael Tiddes ... the same team who brought us the excellent first film.
Once again making fun of the Paranormal film franchise characters' disturbingly odd fascination with all types of cameras, 2 also adds comedic elements from other recent horror films like Sinister, The Conjuring, Insidious and The Possession.
While each of those films had something to praise, the monotony of horror films has made films like this boring, tired and unoriginal. Not only that, but parts they've decided to lambast -- the doll Annabelle from The Conjuring gets a disgustingly perverted and crass re-imagining here as an apparently spooky yet hump-able jealous and sex-crazed doll -- make the film out to be some sort of porn parody as there is plenty of Wayan's skin on display here.
The filmmakers are perhaps going for a sexy-scary combo here but instead it is simply disturbing. Is this funny?! I will commend the film for not writing a part for Nick Swardson in this one ... but that is the film's ONLY praise.
This isn't scary sick ... it is just sick.
