Review of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006) by James H — 08 Mar 2008
I am in two minds about this film.
Was it significant?
I suppose not. it added nothing different to the urban life genre, and in that respect should have been a bit, well, boring.
But it wasnt. this was based on the memoir of one Dito Montiel, who is drawn back to his old NY neighbourhood when his father (chazz palminteri) becomes ill. most of the film isa flashback to the not-so-glory days of Dito's youth, and he slowly discovers how his relationship with everybody he knew fell apart. robert downey jr. and chazz palminteri were great as Dito and his father, respectively.
Still, I am confused as to whether this was a good film or not. you can decide for yourself.
