A rather difficult movie to describe, but basically a coming of age drama told partly in flashback with a non-linear narrative. Don't let this put you off - it's brilliant. Great performances from everyone involved, and especially worth checking out Shia LaBeouf if you've only seen him in Transformers and Indiana Jones 4.
Not easy watching, either in terms of storyline or style, but an interesting, moving story, well told.
