Review of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006) by Lucas Y — 03 Oct 2008
To me, this was like Boys n the Hood meets Big Fish.
To many people consider this movie to be a lot better than it is. The director made a movie about himself, not hard to do.
Shia LaBeouf was good in this. I normally can't stand him, but he was good. Unfortunately he had little chemistry with his co-stars, especially Palminteri (who was pretty good), Tatum and West. Shia was above them all.
RDJ stole every scene he was in. He brougth that chemistry with the other actors that Shia didn't, which made the two characters incomparable and they were supposed to be the same character. That's the directors fault.
As far as the story goes, it should keep your interest. I'm not upset I rented it, but I felt it could have been better with a few modifications.
