Review of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006) by Marielly G — 22 Jun 2010
Interesting altogether of a sweaty NY summer in 1986. Flashback, that is. Downey plays an LA writer who goes back home for the first time in 15 years to confront the people that he's left behind, including his best friends, his lover and his father.
Everyone acts their parts very well, even Shia TheBeef, who is usually quite douchebaggy. The problem comes in with the story, the childhood life that Shia plays.. Downey comes back to sound like his life was one of constant hardship with abuse and want.
But Shia's life- and granted, he did have one shitty summer - is otherwise cool. His dad is actually quite cool, he partied, he got laid. What are you running from? Maybe if the Downey present could meet the Shia past, they could figure it out.
