Review of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006) by Ian M — 22 Aug 2010
The cast of this movie helps and hurts it. All of the actors play their parts well (except that the accents of LeBeouf and Downey don't match). A cast of well known names and faces provides great skill in the movie, but also provides expectations that the movie will be something new.
The movie is very direct and very generic. Its the story of a man who has come home after having left for California as a teenager. That's it. It's about how his perspectives have and haven't changed and how the world he left, for the most part looks different but is still the same.
You'll probably end up loving the cast, but knowing that this film won't stick with you. I will say I really did like the touch of taking what the father told him when he was younger and playing it slower and calmer at the end.
It really changes some of the views on his father.
