Review of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006) by Ollie W — 02 Apr 2011
A stunning dà (C)but for Montiel who tells his life story and the adaptation of his own memoir with much less narcissism than you might expect. His camera work might be fairly uneven (though he later explains this was intentional) and some of this brutal tale of growing up in New York gets a little confused and neglected - he nonetheless, proves himself with his astonishingly fresh and mature approach to narrative arcs and the way he wrings out superb performances from his young and unruly cast.
