Review of A Good Year (2006) by Matthew F. J — 14 Dec 2008
This film had got so many bad reviews when it came out!
Curiously enough when I watched with my friend Alex at the movies in the south of France, ii found it an incredible comedy and a great playground for Russel Crowe. He is a talented actor and always delivers a different performance in all his films, in this one he is funny, light hearted and entertaining.
As a Part French/Part American Young man I was absolutely enchanted by the beauty of the south of France and I understood perfectly the dilemma found in the movie because I experienced the same.
I've heard it's a terrible picture full of stereotypes and other dull elements that one can hate in real life but c'mon it's film ...of course they are going to show you the best landscapes and and incredible image of France...
I found all the characters adorable and the French Actress Marion Cotillard is really talented & beautiful as well.
This film reminded me a lot of my own childhood spent in the south of France close to where the film was shot actually.
Give it a try and please remember it's a comedy , it's fresh, it's filled with good energy and a beautiful message in the back story.
