Review of A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) by Dylan G — 06 Feb 2015
By far the weakest of the series. Unfocused plot, The pacing is all over the place. Weak villain, which is unfortunate considering all Die Hard films up to this point have had memorable villains. A focused, coherent story gets shoved aside in order to make way for nonstop, overblown action from beginning to end.
Character development is severely lacking. The two stars go towards some decent chemistry between Bruce Willis and Jai Courtney, and good special effects, engaging action sequences and a minor throwback to '80s violence and humor make the film a fun popcorn flick.
Sometimes turning your brain off to enjoy a film isn't always a bad thing. It makes the film more enjoyable, I can guarantee that. I can only recommend this film to completionists, or someone looking to get a decent action fix.
At this point in Bruce Willis' career, it might be time for him to move away from action for a while. He appears to be very burnt out on the genre. And Skip Woods should never be allowed to write movies again.
The guy is worse than Paul W.S. Anderson, and that isn't saying much.
