Review of A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) by David P — 22 May 2014
If its got Bruce Willis in I'm usually invested, as I am a life long fan. This film, although entertaining with fantastic action sequences and one liners is far far far from the source material of the first film the second or even 2 or 3. To reference the book (Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp) when concerning any film but the first is just plain ridiculous.
I feel that there is no real peril or struggle for John (Bruce) any more, as he has become a seasoned vet of stumbling on to some terrorist plot and foiling it with complete mayhem and destruction in its wake.
DH4 was fun and really was for me the defining moment where quality DH film making stopped.
I do appreciate however the fact that Lucy and Jack (John Jr) were but mere babes in the first film and have been brought forward for this film as grown adults. That is the point where it stops for me. I don't feel that old familiar feeling of a worn out and world weary John Mc and that this truly is just another action flick with Bruce's name and character attached.
