Review of A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) by Jonathan B — 07 Sep 2014
Repurposing a franchise that has lived through the twilight of the Cold War, the 90s, and the Internet Age, the Die Hard films have come to represent their "wrong time at the wrong place" iconic action hero John McClane in that they seem to be adaptable to any scenario (and decade).
And it is fitting that this one takes place in the Post-Soviet borders of Russia, where our All-American cop does what he does best and that is killing terrorists. Yes, the film is ridiculous and very over-the-top, but what do you expect from this franchise after it jumped the shark with the mediocre 2nd and (painfully idiotic) 4th entries? The standards have been lowered, but there was enough in this Die Hard where it didn't ruin my day.
