Review of A Good Day to Die Hard (2013) by Shane D — 02 Oct 2013
It's safe to say it's probably the weakest of the five films in the franchise. I didn't hate the fourth film, in fact, I thought that it was a decent little flick, but where the first two films excelled in their containment of all of the action to one specific location, the latter films have seemed to dilute the tension by having the action sprawl over endless highways and buildings and rooftops.
The dynamic between father and son was actually pretty good, a welcome update (and a more logical one than Justin Long's pairing in the predecessor) but the moments of sincerity between the two McLane's fall flat despite the spot on casting of Jai Courtney.
Also, the plot suffers from not really having a great menacing bad guy, which is where all four previous films delivered. Hopefully it doesn't prove to be a death blow to the franchise.
